California Attorney General Kamala Harris Keynotes The Girls' Middle School Scholarship Breakfast
The Girls’ Middle School is excited to welcome California State Attorney General Kamala D. Harris as the Keynote Speaker for our 2013 Scholarship Breakfast.
Attorney General Harris is the first woman, the first African American, and the first South Asian to hold the office in the history of California. As chief law enforcement officer for the state, she has worked to increase the adoption of technology and data-driven policing to assist law enforcement in the efficient investigation and prosecution of crime, and has traveled to every region of California to expand partnerships with local law enforcement. Attorney General Harris, a featured speaker at the most recent Democratic National Convention, is a career prosecutor. She served two terms as District Attorney of San Francisco before her election as Attorney General. Defeating a two-term incumbent, she was first elected DA in 2003, and was overwhelmingly elected to a second term in November 2007.
The Scholarship Breakfast supports The Girls’ Middle School’s Scholarship Program, which affords girls from underserved populations the opportunity to attend a school that provides an academically challenging education in a supportive environment.
The Girls’ Middle School educates girls at a crucial time in life. The school creates an inclusive environment where academic growth is nourished. A GMS girl discovers her strengths and expresses her voice while respecting the contributions of others. For more information visit http://www.girlsms.org.
