Santa Clara County Democratic Party Annual Dinner
Our annual dinner has been renamed the "Four Freedoms" Dinner and has an exciting new venue this year. The dinner will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Hayes Mansion. The new name is inspired by the closing lines of Franklin Roosevelt's 1941 State of the Union address.
The name "Four Freedoms Dinner" captures well the core Democratic values we've long held, but also speaks to the moment we're in today. Roosevelt's Four Freedoms can be generalized and understood in modern terms as political freedom (speech, press, assembly, vote), which we need to protect in an era in which our democratic institutions and democracy itself are under constant attack; freedom to be accepted and valued regardless of religion, national origin, skin color, etc.; freedom from want, in the sense of every person's right
to have basic needs met; and freedom from fear, such as fear that some unhinged person will start a nuclear war with North Korea or anyone else, fear one won't have an affordable home or secure income, fear one will get sick without insurance, and so on.
We embrace these Four Freedoms as an expression of the affirmative vision we Democrats hold for America as we continue our opposition to Trump and his hateful agenda while working to retake one or both houses of Congress in 2018 and retake the White House in 2020.
Please mark your calendars and make plans to join us on May 11! Ticket information will be available soon.
