Northern Santa Clara County Representation on the Caltrain Board

WHEREAS, Palo Alto and Mountain View have the second and third highest ridership stations on the Caltrain corridor and currently account for 57% of the average weekday boardings in Santa Clara County; and

WHEREAS, these and other northern Santa Clara County cities, including Los Altos and Los Altos Hills, currently lack representation on the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB), which owns and operates Caltrain; and

WHEREAS, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) appoints all three of the PCJPB representatives from Santa Clara County;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Santa Clara County Democratic Party will support permanent representation on the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board for the “North County” group of cities, including Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, and Los Altos Hills.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Santa Clara County Democratic Party will encourage members of the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority to appoint a representative to the PCJPB from one of these “North County” cities.
