                  b. Guest:  Supervisor Dave Cortese, County efforts on gun violence

Supervisor Cortese presented update on his Summit on Gun Violence at the County Fairgrounds, Saturday April 28, 2018 and asked members to attend.

 

c. Reminder of Resolution on Equal Representation in Elected Office and SCCDP’s commitment to Improving the Status of Women in Santa Clara County – Jean Cohen

Jean shared information to members as a reminder that SCCDCC adopted a “Resolution on Equal Representation in Elected Office…” and presented a written copy to the members.

 

                  d. Endorsements – Clarence Madrilejos

Clarence presented the recommendations as presented by the Endorsement Committee

*Endorsements for City Council D3, D5 and School Bond and parcel tax measures and Regional Measure 3 – recommended approval on consent calendar –Motion to approve recommendation – passes unanimously.  All other endorsements were pulled for discussion.

 

                                    1. Sheriff – John Hirakawa, 2/3 of voting body voted to endorse

 

                                    2. Supervisor, District 4 –Motion to support Don Rocha sole (failed 14 in favor, 34 opposed, 8 abstained)

                                                                             Motion to support Dominic Caserta sole (failed 7 in favor, 45 opposed, 4 abstained)

                                                                              Motion to support Susan Ellenberg sole (failed 13 in favor, 32 opposed, 9 abstained)

                                                                             Motion for dual endorsement of Ellenberg/Rocha (failed 29 in favor, 18 opposed, 3 abstained)

                                                                             Motion for triple endorsement of Ellenberg/Rocha/Caserta (passes 35 in favor, 15 opposed, 7 abstained)

 

                                    3. San Jose City Council D7- Maya Esparza received sole endorsement (50 in favor, 2 opposed, 5 abstained)

 

                                    4. San Jose City Council D9 – Shay Franco Clausen received sole endorsement (41 in favor, 9 opposed, 5 abstained)
